Why Do More People Believe in Horoscopes Than in Faith?

Jul 9, 2025 | Personal growth | 0 comments

Hey,

“You’re a Leo, so today you’ll feel confident and brave!”
Sounds fun, right? Many of us scroll through our social feeds and pause at those short horoscope posts. They tell us how our day might go, who we’re compatible with, and what the universe has planned.

But here’s the real question: why are so many people turning to horoscopes—and turning away from faith in God and the Bible?
If you’ve ever wondered the same, keep reading. This post might surprise you. This will be my Christian view on astrology.

What Is a Horoscope?

Horoscopes are based on astrology, an ancient belief system going back to Babylon, and later developed by the Greeks and Romans. Astrology teaches that the positions of the sun, moon, and planets at the time of your birth shape your personality and life.

There are twelve zodiac signs, and each one is said to come with specific traits:

  • Aries (March 21 – April 19): Bold, energetic
  • Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Loyal, practical
  • Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Curious, adaptable
  • Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Emotional, nurturing
  • Leo (July 23 – August 22): Confident, proud
  • Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Organized, logical
  • Libra (September 23 – October 22): Social, fair
  • Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): Passionate, intense
  • Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Adventurous, free-spirited
  • Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Ambitious, disciplined
  • Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Innovative, unique
  • Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Dreamy, sensitive

These traits are broad and often vague, so vague that anyone could feel like they fit.

A Quick Look at Christianity

Christianity isn’t based on stars or constellations. It’s based on a relationship with a real and living God. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ walked this earth, taught truth, healed the sick, and died on the cross for our sins.

The foundation of the Christian faith is the Bible—a collection of books written over centuries by prophets, kings, fishermen, and others inspired by God. Unlike horoscopes, the Bible is supported by history, archaeology, and fulfilled prophecy.

Why Are Horoscopes So Popular?

Here are some common reasons:

1. They’re Quick and Accessible

One tap on Instagram or TikTok and you get your “daily truth.” No prayer, no searching—just scroll and read.

2. They Feel Personal

It feels good to read something that “understands” your mood or behavior. But in reality, these are general statements written to fit anyone.

3. They Don’t Demand Change

Horoscopes often give you an excuse: “Mercury is in retrograde, that’s why you’re acting this way.” God, on the other hand, lovingly calls you to grow, to repent, to become more like Christ.

The Problem with Zodiac Beliefs

Here’s the hard truth: horoscopes can become spiritual distractions. They subtly replace God’s voice with human guesses and man-made words. The Bible warns against looking to stars and signs for guidance:

Astrology encourages people to believe that their identity and destiny are determined by the stars, rather than by their Creator.

God Knows You Better Than the Stars

You don’t need the stars to tell you who you are.
God already did:

Your life is not written in the sky. It’s written in God’s hands.
Your value isn’t based on your zodiac sign, but on the cross.

A Better Way: Trusting God Daily

Instead of checking horoscopes, try this:

  • Read one Bible verse every morning. (Start with Proverbs or Psalms!)
  • Ask God to guide your day.
  • Use a faith journal, not a horoscope app.
  • Talk to a friend about what God is showing you, not what Mercury is doing.

You’ll start to notice a shift. Less confusion. More peace. Less fear of the future. More trust in God.

Conclusion

Horoscopes might feel harmless. However, when they replace truth, they become a danger.
They offer shallow comfort in a world that desperately needs deep truth.

You were not created for a sign.
You were created for salvation, purpose, and eternal love.

So next time you’re tempted to ask,
“What does my zodiac say about today?”
Instead ask,
“What does God say about me today?”
